I’m a mother, a grandmother, and the person in the family who finally decided that “same old, same old” holidays just weren’t cutting it anymore.

For years, every Thanksgiving and Christmas looked identical — dinner, football, polite conversation, repeat. So one year, I decided to change it up. I started with a simple idea: What if every Christmas had a theme?
That first year, the theme was England.

I went all in — researching traditions, décor, and food. I cooked a traditional English Christmas meal from scratch (yes, including a Christmas Goose), made Mulled Wine, and introduced my family to Christmas Crackers at the table. We added a few “Minute to Win It” games with small prizes, and suddenly… Christmas felt exciting again.

The next year? I kicked it up a notch.

Japan became the theme. Low tables. Floor pillows. Beautiful Japanese Dishes. Chopsticks and Chopstick Holders. A Wooden Sushi Boat loaded with rolls, alongside Yakisoba, Beef and Broccoli, and Rice. And YES, even SAKI! The games returned, the prizes got bigger, and the memories got even better.

As the years went on, the themes expanded beyond countries — from a blended Hippie and India-inspired celebration (with rooms transformed into entirely different worlds), to a Gaming Night for my video-game-loving kids and grandkids, to a fully immersive Alice in Wonderland experience. The theme was never the limit — imagination was.

Over the years, the décor, the experiences, and the energy kept growing — and so did the buzz. Friends and coworkers constantly told me, “Your parties sound amazing.”

By Christmas 2024, I decided to open the doors wider.

I hosted a Fiesta-Themed Christmas Party and invited friends and coworkers — so many that I had to rent a venue. The décor scaled up to full backdrops and inflatables, but this time, I wanted the experience to feel truly authentic.

The Food and Drinks were all Traditional Mexican Favorites — no Ground Beef, no regular Shredded Cheeses. The meats were catered and consisted of Cabeza, Asada, Pollo, and Chile Verde, along with classic Beans, Rice, and Desserts. The drink menu featured Horchata, Jarritos, and Strawberry Margaritas made with Patrón (with non-alcoholic options as well). Every detail was intentional — and everyone loved it.

We added high-energy games and prizes people still talk about today — including TVs, an Outdoor Theater System with a 16-foot Inflatable Screen, Patio Fireplaces, Cash Prizes, and hilarious “surprise money” gifts.

That party sealed it.

But long before the décor scaled up and the prizes got bigger, another passion was already taking shape — one built on mystery, storytelling, and a room full of curious minds.

I’ve been hosting Murder Mysteries for decades — my very first one was back in the late 1990s. Years later, I subscribed to monthly Murder Mystery Boxes and turned family nights into full detective experiences, complete with an oversized Whiteboard in my kitchen to track clues like real investigators.

Eventually, those nights evolved into full-scale Murder Mystery Dinner Parties — including Roaring 20s, Futuristic, and Wild West themes — hosted at the restaurant where I worked. Guests dressed up, competed, debated theories, and fully immersed themselves in the story.

That’s when it clicked.

What I love most isn’t just the planning or the themes — it’s the feeling. Seeing guests interact with each other, laugh, compete, dress up, and fully lose themselves in the moment — leaving everyday worries behind and making memories they’ll remember, reflect back on, talk about, and smile about for years to come.
