Hanford Obscura Murder Trail
The Orchard Incident
Stop 6: “The Offer”
COURT BARBER SHOP
SCOTT:
You shouldn’t be sitting here alone this late.
BRENDA:
I don’t even recognize this place anymore.
Every day it’s lawyers… inspectors… paperwork…
Thomas kept saying something was wrong with the orchard.
I thought he was losing himself.
SCOTT:
Maybe he was just carrying too much for too long.
BRENDA:
No.
He believed somebody was hiding something.
How am I supposed to ignore that?
SCOTT:
Brenda… sometimes digging deeper only makes things worse.
BRENDA:
Thomas died trying to protect this land.
SCOTT:
Or maybe he died trying to protect you.
BRENDA:
I wonder if Julia still wants the property.
SCOTT:
I think she’s uncertain now.
The contamination changed things.
BRENDA:
Then why keep calling me?
SCOTT:
Because once the county gets involved publicly…
the orchard may not be worth anything at all.
BRENDA:
Thomas never wanted to sell.
SCOTT:
Thomas also wouldn’t have wanted you drowning in investigations, debt, and lawsuits.
BRENDA:
I just want the truth.
SCOTT:
And what if the truth destroys everything Thomas spent his life building?
BRENDA:
You think I should let it go?
SCOTT:
I think you deserve peace after everything that’s happened.
BRENDA:
Or maybe somebody just wants this buried before the truth comes out.
